This 2025 budget promised to be an interesting one, as a general election is expected before March next year. So what did the Budget 2025 have to offer families of those with a disability?
Children
€15 weekly increase in maternity, paternity and parents benefit
Parents of newborns will receive a once off payment of €420
Double Child Allowance paid in November and December
Incapacitated Child Tax Credit to increase by €300
€400 payment for those that receive working family payment (WFP)
Carers
€12 increase per week to Carers Allowance and Disability Allowance from January 2025
Increase in Carers Allowance means test income disregard to €625 for a single person and €1,250 for a couple
Domiciliary care allowance is to increase by €20
The annual Carers Support grant is increasing by €150 to €2000 and those who qualify for this grant will also get a €400 cost of living lump sum
The Single Child Carer credit to increase by €150
Carers benefit will be introduced for the self employed in January 2025
Health Service
€336m increase is being provided for Disability Services which will facilitate more respite provision, additional home support hours and a day service plan for school leavers.
New Autism Innovation Fund
70 additional residential placements to support appropriate housing in the community for those in congregated settings and those under 65 in nursing homes.
Number of beds in our health service will increase by 495 across hospital and community services
An extra 3,346 staff will be employed in health system in 2025
Education
768 additional special education teachers and 1600 more SNAs
1.3 billion for 350 school projects
Hot meals programme to be extended to all schools
All students up to leaving certificate are covered under free schoolbooks initiative
