Cairde le Cheile ethos is to provide supports for people with disabilities, for the elderly and vulnerable young adults, as well as working with the Special Olympics by providing opportunities through sport, employment and social outlets. Cairde le Cheile CLG was set up in October 2005 as a social enterprise with charity status.
They offer centre-based facilities to members of the community for sport, recreation & training and Independent Advocacy to a number of disability groups. The projects is located in the Cairde Le Cheile building (Vestry) on the grounds of St Conals Hospital overlooking Letterkenny town park and they had a footfall of 35,000 into their facility in 2023 with 38 community groups availing of services.
They employ two full time staff and two part time staff, Tus and CE participants and young people with a disability. Cairde le Cheile have been involved with Special Olympics since 2004 and are currently connected to nine clubs in Donegal.
Facilities include
· The Vestry tearoom that has disability access from the town park and throughout their
facilities.
· Sensory room and garden
· Two Training rooms
· A Social room on our first floor with disability access by lift
· A large Sports hall
· Multi - purpose changing area for people with a disability
