Disability (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2023

The harsh reality is that Irish citizens with a disability have less legal protection for services than disabled individuals in other countries like the UK, US and other EU countries.

We are hopeful that this is about to change.... Independent Senator Dr Tom Clonan proposed The Disability (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2023 which aims to amend pre-existing legislation on disability services and the state of equal status in Ireland.

The amendments proposed in the 2023 Bill will ensure that the reasonable needs of disabled citizens are met in Ireland. This is huge, but it will need significant government support to be enacted into law and give our children and disabled individuals the legal right to the services and support we desperately need.

FUSS Ireland have been working directly with Dr Clonan and have been pivotal in providing information on this initiative. On their website you can find an email template to contact your local representative.
